Content update

The Surfpack engine updates each module content in two ways - either in the background (by schedule) or when the Startpage is loading. The Enable background update option allows you to select when the updates occur.

Background update is the recommended option if you visit your Startpage more than 5-6 times a day. It speeds up page loading and reduces the amount of data downloaded. The program checks each module at time intervals set by the module author. Our content retrieving technology does everything to reduce Internet usage; it will only download if new data is available.

If you open your Startpage less often, or if it is necessary to keep your Internet connection free, then you may disable the background update. Data will then be downloaded only when you open the page.

You can see the Internet usage statistics for each module by clicking the Statistics link in the Startpage footer.
